Audio: Widow Speaks Out After Army Officer’s Death In Fire Incident

886

The wife of the late Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has spoken out for the first time since her husband’s tragic death from severe burns allegedly sustained during a domestic dispute.

In an audio message circulating on social media, Mrs. Haruna insisted that the fire incident, which led to her husband’s death, was a terrible accident and not a deliberate act.

Lt. Haruna, who served as a medical doctor and Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion, met his untimely death on September 22, 2025, at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Reports indicate that the couple had engaged in a heated argument that allegedly escalated when Mrs. Haruna poured petrol in their apartment, which later ignited and engulfed the officer in flames.

He was first treated at the Military Reference Section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

In the audio clip, Mrs. Haruna claimed that her husband had accidentally kicked a gallon of fuel during their altercation, causing it to spill. She alleged that he had threatened to set her ablaze if her parents did not come to take her home, but maintained that the fire outbreak was not intentional.

She also accused the late officer of previously subjecting her to domestic violence, saying one of the beatings led to a miscarriage.
