Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the 2027 general election will be his final attempt at the presidency, citing age as his major consideration.
Atiku made the declaration on Wednesday while featuring as a guest on Arise Television’s _Prime Time_ programme.
“The 2027 election will be my last outing,” he said during the live interview.
When pressed on why Nigerians should back him after several attempts, and in view of concerns about his age, the former Vice President argued that Nigeria is currently facing a leadership crisis. He described himself as a bridge between the nation’s political past and its future.
Atiku also called for structured leadership training for young Nigerians, stressing that the country urgently needs a new crop of prepared leaders. He said investing in mentorship and capacity building for youths remains critical to solving Nigeria’s governance challenges.
The PDP chieftain has contested for president in 2007, 2019, and 2023, and previously served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
