President Donald Trump has responded to the resignation of Joe Kent, the nation’s top counterterrorism official, saying it’s a “good thing” he’s gone. Kent resigned in protest of the U.S. military action against Iran, stating that Iran posed no imminent threat to the United States.
“I always thought he was weak on security. Very weak on security. I didn’t know him well. But I thought he seemed like a pretty nice guy. But when I read his statement, I realized that it’s a good thing he’s out because he said Iran was not a threat,” Trump said during a meeting at the White House.
Kent, who served as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, had stated in his resignation letter that the war was initiated due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. He also expressed concerns that the administration had been misled into believing Iran posed an imminent threat
