Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primaries, saying the decision puts the interest of Rivers people above personal ambition.
In a statement, Fubara said the move followed wide consultations with family, friends, and political associates. He thanked supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices, while acknowledging the disappointment his withdrawal may cause. The governor stressed that peace, unity, and stability in the state guided his decision, and that his recent silence was deliberate and aimed at protecting the higher interest of Rivers State.
Fubara added that some issues are best handled quietly in the interest of peace, insisting the withdrawal was not driven by fear or weakness. He also expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support, and urged party members to remain united and focused ahead of the governorship election.
