The daughter of slain Iranian security chief Ali Larijani has returned to Iran after facing backlash in the US. Fatemeh Ardeshir Larijani, a former assistant professor at Emory University, appeared on Iranian state TV praising national unity following Israel’s strikes.
Larijani, who taught at Emory until January 2026, faced public outrage and pressure from Congressman Buddy Carter due to her father’s role in Iran’s security apparatus. The US officially designates Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The incident raises questions about vetting processes for individuals tied to foreign governments with anti-US stances. Calls for stricter measures include deportation reviews and bans on relatives of officials from countries sponsoring terrorism.
