The Nigerian Army has issued a clarification on the arrest of social media influencer Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” following complaints by soldiers over welfare and feeding conditions shared online.
In a statement released on Friday, 2 May 2026, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the Army’s attention was drawn to posts made by Chidiebere after he engaged with soldiers who raised concerns about their welfare.
According to the Army, the matter is being investigated for possible breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and for allegedly spreading misinformation. A preliminary report indicates that Chidiebere held wide-ranging discussions with the soldiers, during which he was alleged to have made statements that could incite discontent within the ranks.
“One such exchange bordered on subversion,” the statement read. “Where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion, it has far-reaching implications for discipline and national security.”
As a result, Chidiebere was taken into custody by the Nigerian Army alongside the soldiers for investigation. While the soldiers remain in military custody, Chidiebere has since been handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and said it would continue to collaborate with other agencies to ensure justice is served. It also stressed that it would act within the law to safeguard national sovereignty and military discipline.
Chidiebere, known online as “Justice Crack,” has a sizable following for content touching on military and security issues.
