347

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has thrown his weight behind Dr. George Moghalu, the party’s candidate for the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State. The endorsement was announced by Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, who described Moghalu as “a relentless warrior for the voiceless masses who have been ravaged by decades of plunder, nepotism, and heartless leadership.”

“In our meetings, I witnessed firsthand the fire in his soul, a fierce, unapologetic commitment to empathy, accountability, and people-centred governance that echoes the very essence of what Anambra deserves and Nigeria demands,” he said.

The statement further highlighted the Labour Party’s confidence going into the polls, noting Anambra’s 2.8 million registered voters spread across 5,894 polling units in 21 local government areas.

“To the Obidient Movement and Labour Party faithful, as epitomised and pronounced by HE Peter Obi, we will march with Mr George Moghalu as one unbreakable army. To those who dare oppose progress, know that the tide of history is turning, and Dr Moghalu will lead us to victory, not with whispers, but with the roar of a new dawn,” the statement concluded.

Obidient Movement’s Support

The Obidient Movement has pledged its full support to Moghalu, citing shared values of accountability, empathy, and people-centered governance. Tanko stated, “We declare, without reservation or equivocation, our absolute and thunderous endorsement of Dr. George Moghalu as the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for Anambra State.” The movement’s backing is significant, given its strong following in the state.¹ ²

Key Highlights of the Endorsement

– Shared Vision: Moghalu’s commitment to empathy, accountability, and people-centered governance aligns with the Obidient Movement’s values.
– Campaign Momentum: Peter Obi officially flagged off Moghalu’s campaign in Onitsha, reaffirming his support and confidence in Moghalu’s leadership abilities.
– Electoral Significance: With 2.8 million registered voters in Anambra State, the Labour Party is optimistic about securing a landslide victory, according to Tanko.³

Moghalu’s Response

Dr. George Moghalu has expressed gratitude for the endorsement, promising to uphold the values of justice, equity, youth inclusion, infrastructural development, security, and responsible governance. He pledged to lead an inclusive and transparent government, harnessing the energy and ideals of the Obidient Movement to drive real transformation across all communities in Anambra State.⁴
