Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh attributes Nigeria’s failure to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to indiscipline by Victor Osimhen, citing a public confrontation with teammate Ademola Lookman during their 4-0 win over Mozambique as a turning point. Oliseh believes this incident disrupted team chemistry and weakened their title chances .

“Let’s look at the toxicity that might have cost us the AFCON title,” Oliseh said. “Victor Osimhen is world-class, but talent is not a license to destroy team chemistry.” He noted Lookman’s form dipped noticeably after the incident, affecting Nigeria’s attacking potency in the semifinal .
