Namibia Bids Farewell to Founding President Sam Nujoma

456

Namibia has laid its founding president, Sam Nujoma, to rest in a solemn state funeral, marking the end of an era for one of Africa’s last great liberation leaders. Nujoma, who played a pivotal role in Namibia’s struggle for independence from South African rule, was honored by national and international dignitaries for his lifelong commitment to freedom and nation-building.

The funeral, held in the capital Windhoek, was attended by African heads of state, global leaders, and thousands of Namibians who gathered to pay their final respects. Tributes poured in, describing Nujoma as a symbol of African resilience and a champion of self-determination. His leadership of the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) and his role in securing Namibia’s independence in 1990 were widely praised.

President Hage Geingob led the tributes, calling Nujoma “a true son of Africa” whose contributions to the liberation struggle will never be forgotten. Many also highlighted his vision for a united, progressive Namibia, as well as his advocacy for pan-Africanism.

As Namibia mourns its founding leader, Nujoma’s legacy as a freedom fighter and statesman remains deeply embedded in the nation’s history. His passing marks the end of an era for Africa’s liberation generation, leaving behind a lasting impact on the continent’s fight for self-rule and sovereignty.
