Four people have been confirmed dead following an attack in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday morning.
The Benue State Police Command said the victims were ambushed while walking along a rural road to a nearby community.
Chairman of Agatu LGA, Melvin Ejeh, confirmed the incident and said recent security measures had made large-scale attacks on communities more difficult, leading attackers to shift to ambush tactics. He added that clearance operations are ongoing in nearby forests, with security personnel and local vigilantes deployed to restore calm.
Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said officers have been dispatched to the area and efforts are underway to track down those responsible.
