A fire outbreak occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Afriland Tower, a six-storey building located on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The incident was confirmed by Deputy Controller General Ogabi Olajide of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire service received an emergency call at 1:38 PM, prompting a rapid response from firefighters deployed from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations. According to reports, the fire originated in the inverter room situated in the building’s basement.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reported that evacuation of occupants is ongoing, while firefighting operations have been concluded, effectively dousing the panic that ensued before the arrival of the first responders.¹
