Hundreds of villagers from Achakpa community in Benue State’s Makurdi Local Government Area took to the streets on Saturday, blocking the Makurdi-Abuja highway in protest against a recent attack by armed Fulani herdsmen. The attack, which occurred on the outskirts of the community on Saturday, September 20, 2025, claimed the lives of three individuals, including a Catholic choir master, Francis Kulegwa, and a father and son, Tor Felafa and Peter.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were ambushed while working on their farms, and several others were abducted. Many people narrowly escaped, but some remain missing. The protesters, who carried placards and tree branches, chanted solidarity songs and vowed not to vacate the road until justice is served.
The blockade caused significant disruptions, with motorists stranded as the villagers insisted that the state governor must address them. The State Police Command confirmed the killings, but further details are yet to be released.
The community’s protest highlights the growing concerns about security in the region and the need for urgent action to protect lives and property.
