The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Taminu Turaki has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the party’s screening committee. Former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, who chaired the committee, confirmed Jonathan’s clearance after the exercise.
Meanwhile, PDP chieftain Umar Sani confirmed that Jonathan has purchased the party’s nomination form. Speaking on Trust TV on Tuesday, Sani said the move signals Jonathan’s serious intent to return to partisan politics.
“In politics, what matters is action. If you are interested, there are processes to follow, and one of them is purchasing the nomination form. He has done that,” Sani said.
When asked directly if Jonathan had obtained the form, Sani replied: “Yes, and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015.
