Jos, Plateau State – Christians in Jos are celebrating Easter with a mix of solemnity and caution, following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba on March 29 that left over 30 people dead and more than 20 injured. In response, churches have toned down their celebrations, with a heightened security presence.
At churches across the city, including the Church of Christ in Nations and Redeemed Christian Church of God, worshippers gathered with increased caution. Religious leaders urged Christians to focus on the message and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, reminding them that death is inevitable. “The message of Easter is one of hope and redemption,” said Rev. Istifanus William, Chairman of COCIN RCC Hwolshe.
Former member of the National Assembly, Dachung Bagos, praised the Federal Government’s plans to deploy technology-driven solutions to address security challenges in the state. Worshippers, including Zanret Zamani and Chowong Iliya, called on the government to bring the perpetrators of the Angwan Rukuba attack to justice and ensure citizens can live without fear. The incident has left many residents seeking reassurance of their safety as they go about their daily lives.
