President Bola Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector General of Police (IGP) and appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Tunji Disu as his successor. Egbetokun, who was appointed as the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023, was asked to resign at a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday

Egbetokun, 58 at the time of his appointment, was due for retirement on September 4, 2024, but his tenure was extended by the President. The move has sparked speculation about the reasons behind his removal, with some sources citing health concerns and controversies surrounding his tenure
