President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. Oyedele, a seasoned economist, accountant, and public policy expert, was confirmed by the Senate on March 11, 2026, after serving as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms ¹ ² ³.
Oyedele, 50, brings over two decades of experience to the role, having spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is also a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School .
During his Senate confirmation hearing, Oyedele pledged to pursue fiscal reforms aimed at improving government revenue, ensuring realistic budgeting, and strengthening Nigeria’s economic management framework. He emphasized the need for policy stability, particularly in the solid minerals sector, and highlighted the importance of aligning fiscal policies with Nigeria’s industrialization goals ² ⁴.
Oyedele’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to drive economic growth and development in Nigeria. His experience in tax policy and fiscal reforms is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s economic transformation.
