The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU Owerri Zone, has raised concerns over the federal government’s alleged failure to fully implement the December 2025 agreement reached with the union. Speaking at a press conference held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Zonal Coordinator Professor Dennis Aribodor condemned what he described as the partial implementation of key salary components, insisting that all negotiated entitlements should be integrated into the monthly salary structure.
Professor Aribodor also highlighted several unresolved issues affecting members, including outstanding arrears, withheld salaries, unpaid promotion benefits, and delayed remittances of third-party deductions. He further cited complications with pensions and the controversial withholding of three-and-a-half months’ salaries linked to the 2022 industrial action. Other grievances include stalled promotions, unpaid arrears dating back to 2016, and a lack of recruitment at Imo State University since 2015.
The union urged the federal and state governments to honor their commitments to prevent further disruption of academic activities. “Government at all levels must act swiftly to uphold agreements and restore confidence in the system,” Aribodor said.
