The Supreme Court has nullified the national convention of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, held in Ibadan in November 2025.

The convention was organised by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the party.

In a 3-2 split decision, the apex court faulted the Turaki camp for disobeying subsisting court orders, describing the conduct as “condemnable.”

The lead judgment, prepared and read by Justice Stephen Adah, upheld an appeal challenging the Court of Appeal’s earlier decision which affirmed that former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, was unlawfully excluded from the party’s chairmanship race.

The five-member panel expressed displeasure that the Turaki-led group went ahead with the Ibadan convention despite a trial court order directing that the event be halted until nomination forms were sold to all interested aspirants.

“The Ibadan Convention went ahead in defiance of a subsisting court order. This is condemnable,” the court held.

Justices Mohammed Garba and Chidi Nwaoma Uwa joined Justice Adah in the majority decision. Justices Haruna Tsammani and Abubakar Sadiq Umar dissented.

The ruling voids all decisions and outcomes of the November 2025 Ibadan convention.
