UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has refused to yield to US President Donald Trump’s pressure over Greenland, describing the US tariff threats as “completely wrong”. The dispute centers on Trump’s desire for American control over Danish-owned Greenland, a strategic Arctic territory crucial for missile defense and rare earth minerals ¹ ² ³.
At Prime Minister’s Questions, Starmer criticized Trump’s latest outburst, saying the US president’s words were aimed at forcing Britain to abandon its “values and principles”. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen vowed the bloc would be “unflinching” in its response, while Danish Premier Mette Frederiksen will hold urgent talks with Starmer.
Trump’s threats have rattled NATO, with analysts warning of the alliance’s most severe rupture since 1949. Chancellor Rachel Reeves insisted the UK “would not be buffeted around” by tariff threats, stressing the trade deal with Washington “would not be undone” .
