The Rotary Club of Ojodu, under the leadership of its 20th President, Rotarian Osi-Evans Ikpunuekhai, today held a community empowerment programme, distributing sewing and grinding machines to selected residents of the Ojodu community. The initiative forms part of the club’s ongoing commitment to economic empowerment and grassroots development.
The event was held at the Open Field Opposite Primary Health Care Centre, Powerline Okeira Ogba, drawing members of the community, beneficiaries, Rotarians, and guests who gathered to witness another milestone in the club’s service journey.
Speaking at the event, President Rotarian Osi-Evans Ikpunuekhai commended the club’s enduring commitment to impactful service, emphasizing the urgent need for such interventions in the current economic climate.
“In the face of today’s economic realities, empowering our people has become more than a duty—it is a necessity,” he said. “By providing sewing and grinding machines to members of our community, we are planting seeds of self-reliance and resilience. These tools are more than equipment; they are lifelines that will help families stay afloat and small businesses to thrive.”
He further reaffirmed the club’s mission to implement sustainable solutions that uplift communities, urging beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity for long-term growth and stability.
Representing the Project Chair, Rtn. Chibuzor Onyilimba, Assistant Governor Rtn. Jellily Efedi echoed the sentiment and lauded the collaborative efforts behind the initiative.
“This programme is timely and essential. With the prevailing economic downturn, we believe these sewing and grinding machines will not only enable the beneficiaries to provide for their families but also add value to their businesses—bringing more stability and growth into their entrepreneurial journey,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to all donors, partners, and Rotarians whose contributions made the project a reality, underscoring that true service lies in empowering others to succeed.
Chartered on March 8, 2005, the Rotary Club of Ojodu—originally founded in 2002 with 26 passionate members—has remained steadfast in its motto: “Passionate in Solving Global Problems, Starting with Our Community.” Over the years, the club has consistently carried out impactful service projects, demonstrating the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self and aligning with Rotary International’s global mission to create lasting change in communities across the world.
