President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, replacing Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar who resigned on Monday.

General Musa, a distinguished soldier, served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025. The 58-year-old, born in Sokoto in 1967, has a stellar military career, earning the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering in 2012.

A seasoned veteran with extensive experience, General Musa is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, President Tinubu said in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, expressing confidence in his nominee’s abilities.
