The Islamic Republic of Iran has dismissed allegations made by the Israeli ambassador that Iran sponsors terrorism in Nigeria and the Sahel region as “entirely unfounded” and part of a propaganda campaign.
In a statement, Iran said the claims are an attempt by Israel to deflect attention from its own conduct, citing Israel’s history of assassinating scientists, government officials, and political figures in various countries, including Iran.
“Iran itself has been a victim of terrorism, with thousands of citizens killed in terrorist attacks,” the statement read. “We emphasize the need for genuine international cooperation to combat terrorism, without using it as a tool for baseless accusations.”
Iran highlighted its friendly and respectful relations with Nigeria, citing cooperation in trade, education, culture, health, science, and technology. “Iran values its relations with Nigeria and seeks constructive engagement,” the statement added.
The country reiterated its commitment to regional peace and stability, emphasizing cooperation, dialogue, and respect for national sovereignty. Iran is open to expanding cooperation with Nigeria in economic, scientific, cultural, and technical fields, promoting shared prosperity and stability.
