‘I Didn’t Know What Came Over Me’ – Corps Member Who raped 20-Year-Old Girl Says

One Adebola Sodiq, said to be a member of the National Youth Service Corps, has reportedly raped a 20-year-old girl in Owode Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Sodiq, who is currently in police custody, was arrested on Friday, May 12, following a report lodged at the Owode Egba divisional headquarters by the victim.

The Ogun State police image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the corps member is a boyfriend to the victim’s close friend.

The victim had told the police that Sodiq had on May 9 visited her apartment, where she lives with her coworkers, asking her to go with him to the village junction so as to buy her a gift for her recently celebrated birthday.

Oyeyemi quoted the girl as saying that She stated further that while going, the suspect told her he needed to visit the premises of the school, where he is serving, in order to pick up his wallet.

“On getting to the school compound at Agbajege village, the suspect forcefully dragged her to his room, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her despite her pleading and crying for mercy,” Oyeyemi stated.

The police spokesman explained that the DPO of Owode Egba division, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola, acted on the report and immediately ordered detectives to go and arrest the suspect.

“On interrogation, he confessed to the commission of the crime but claimed that he didn’t know what came over him as at that time,” Oyeyemi informed, adding that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has directed that the transfer of the suspect to the State CIID for further investigation and possible prosecution.
