The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has cautioned Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other cabinet ministers against premature politicking for the 2027 elections, urging them to prioritize their official duties instead.
In a statement, HURIWA described Keyamo’s recent political commentary on social media as “insensitive and diversionary,” noting that a sitting minister should focus on addressing the aviation sector’s challenges rather than engaging in speculative political analysis.
The group lamented that cabinet officials are neglecting their core responsibilities, implementing poor policies, and suffocating businesses with excessive levies and charges. HURIWA criticized the administration’s policies, including the hike in passport fees, corporate registration fees, and exorbitant interest rates, which it said are crippling entrepreneurship and stifling economic growth.
HURIWA called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in his cabinet members, stressing that their mandate is to serve the people, not to pursue personal political ambitions. The group warned that if the administration continues on its current path, it will be judged harshly by history.
