Explosion At DICON Factory In Kaduna Claims Two Lives

A devastating explosion rocked the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in the Kakuri Industrial area of Kaduna South local government, Kaduna State, on September 20. The incident, which occurred at around 10 am, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, while four others sustained injuries.

Details of the Incident

The explosion was powerful enough to shake communities in Kaduna South and Chikun local government areas. The injured were rushed to St. Gerard’s Catholic Hospital, Kakuri, before being evacuated to 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, for further treatment. The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.

DICON’s Role

DICON, established in 1964, is Nigeria’s premier arms manufacturing outfit, responsible for producing weapons and ammunition for the Nigerian Armed Forces. The factory’s operations are crucial to the country’s defense capabilities.

Investigation and Response

As of press time, DICON management had not issued an official statement regarding the incident. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is likely to be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
