Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has addressed concerns about the salaries of his political aides, stating that each of his Personal Assistants (PAs) earns a minimum of ₦1 million monthly. The governor made this known during a Town Square Meeting with residents of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency.
Reward for Community Service
Governor Eno praised his Personal Assistant on Protocol, Blessed Essien, for using part of his salary to fund a water borehole project in his community. As a reward, Essien was promoted to Special Assistant on Public Works.
Transparency and Accountability
The governor emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability among his appointees, directing the Secretary to the State Government to publish a list of all political appointees, categorized by local government areas, in a national newspaper. Governor Eno encouraged constituents to hold their representatives accountable, asking, “What have they done for your communities?”
Performance-Based Appointments
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to performance-based appointments, citing Essien’s promotion as a result of his visible impact. Governor Eno’s stance aims to promote responsibility and community engagement among his appointees.
