After Tragic Death, Family Warns Microsoft To Address Employee Burnout

315

The family of Pratik Pandey, a 35-year-old Microsoft engineer who died at work, is calling on Silicon Valley companies to reevaluate their work culture and prioritize employee well-being. Pandey, who worked at Microsoft’s Mountain View office, was found unresponsive in the campus courtyard on August 19.

A Life Cut Short

According to his uncle, Manoj Pandey, Pratik had been working late nights, juggling multiple projects, and experiencing significant stress. Despite having no known health issues, Pratik told his roommate and colleagues about his anxiety. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s initial report suggested that Pandey likely suffered a heart attack.

A Plea for Change

Pratik’s uncle is urging tech companies to take proactive steps to monitor and support employees working long hours. “That will probably save a life,” he said, emphasizing the pain and loss his family feels. “It’s a lot of pain for the family when a loved one passes away.”

Remembering Pratik

Pandey was known for his passion for soccer, ping pong, and cricket. He was a hardworking and positive individual who had built a promising career in the tech industry. Born in Indore, India, Pratik immigrated to the US about a decade ago to pursue his master’s degree from San Jose State University. He worked at several prominent tech companies, including Apple and Walmart Labs, before joining Microsoft in 2020.

Investigation and Aftermath

The Mountain View Police Department investigated the scene and found no signs of suspicious activity. The family is now making arrangements to send Pratik’s remains to India, where his parents and two sisters reside. As the tech industry continues to grow and evolve, Pratik’s family hopes that his tragic death will serve as a catalyst for change and a renewed focus on employee well-being.
