Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Prof. As New JAMB Registrar

45

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Prof. Segun Aina, 39, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He will take over from Prof. Ishaq Oloyede when Oloyede’s two-term tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced on May 21, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Aina, who turns 40 in July 2026, is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of computer engineering and will become JAMB’s youngest registrar on record.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes. That foundation has shaped his work in examination reform and systems optimization over the past 15 years.

Aina works at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation. He has advised federal and state governments on system design, digital transition, and operational reform.

He has also served as a consultant to NECO, NABTEB, and several State Ministries of Education, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimization.

He is a registered member of COREN and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Tinubu said he expects Aina to build on the reforms achieved under Oloyede and bring fresh technical expertise to strengthen JAMB’s operations and credibility.

Oloyede, who has led JAMB since 2016, will retire after completing two terms in office.
