Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approached President Bola Tinubu about a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress, with the consent of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, according to Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity at Kano Government House.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Bature said the move also had the backing of Kwankwaso and former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo. He described the discussions as part of wider behind-the-scenes engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bature claimed Governor Yusuf honored Tinubu’s invitation to join the APC as a response to what he called a political miscalculation that led Kwankwaso to align with a pro-Biafra group. The statement adds to growing speculation over political realignments in Kano ahead of 2027.
