Rivers Crisis: Our Victory Will Come – Fubara

7

The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has given fresh assurances that he would emerge victorious from the political situation rocking the state.

According to Fubara, he is not bothered about the current situation, adding that no king or authority lives forever and only the truth lasts forever.

He made the submission while speaking at a gathering in Bonny, where he noted that not everybody will appreciate his style.

Governor Fubara added that it is important to always do the right thing instead of bending to pressures to become what one is not.

“Everybody will not appreciate your style but when you know that what you are doing is right, you are sure that in 25 to 30 years, if placed in any box and you are asked a question, you can defend your action, that’s what makes you a man.

No king lives forever, that’s the truth and no authority lasts forever, but what is important is that within the period that you are in power or when you reigned, I wished you did wonderful things that would speak forever.

“Some people accused me about a lot of things but the truth about it is that I can’t be what I’m not or who I am.

“And for our people, just be strong – at times, you need to lose to win – for me and anybody who believes in me, I have never considered myself losing anything. It’s when you attach life to things that it bothers you.

“I know that at the end of the day, our winning will come to us because we are standing on a solid rock.”

The statement comes amidst the six-month state of emergency declared in March by President Bola Tinubu following the political turmoil in Rivers State.

The emergency rule and Fubara’s suspension were a fallout of the political crisis that followed a face-off between Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The President has since appointed a former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas, as the sole administrator to preside over affairs in Rivers State while the suspension of Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly remains in effect.
