A devastating helicopter crash in Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath pilgrimage route has resulted in the deaths of all seven people on board, including a two-year-old child and the pilot. The Aryan Aviation Bell 407 helicopter, registered as VT-BKA, was transporting Hindu pilgrims from Kedarnath to Guptkashi when it lost contact and crashed near Gaurikund.
Authorities suspect poor visibility and adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the controlled flight into terrain (CFIT). The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister has convened a high-level meeting with aviation authorities, emphasizing the importance of aviation safety. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed stricter protocols and reduced helicopter operations to pilgrimage sites.
Families of the victims are submitting DNA samples to aid in identification and claiming of remains.
This incident comes shortly after a major Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which resulted in significant loss of life.
