What Nnamani Did To Save Nigeria’s Democracy – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised former Senate President Ken Nnamani, for thwarting the third-term agenda of erstwhile President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Tinubu stated that some persons” wanted to “derail democracy” through the third term, but Nnamani saved the situation,

In 2021, Nnamani, while speaking at the public presentation of his book: “STANDING STRONG: Legislative Reforms, Third Term and Other Issues of the 5th Senate,” had disclosed how he stopped Obasanjo’s third term agenda.

Nnamani, who represented Enugu East Senatorial District on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was senate president between 2005 and 2007.

It was during his tenure that Obasanjo, in 2006, allegedly sought to extend his tenure beyond the constitutionally allowed two terms of four years each.

Speaking during an interactive session with South East leaders during his official visit to Enugu State at the weekend, Tinubu stated that Nnamani put life into democracy.

He said, “The man who saved democracy for us all to enjoy, our former Senate President, I cannot forget that memorable time. The time when the third term effort was killed. He put life into freedom, constitutional democracy.”

The president also praised Governor Peter Mbah for his development model and philosophy after inaugurating several projects executed by the state government.

He pledged that the federal government would continue to support Enugu and other states in their development efforts.
