The Super Eagles of Nigeria departed depart the country on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022 to Cameroon for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy which begins January 9 and runs through February 6.
The three-time Africa champions who have been in camp in Abuja left the country at about 8 pm local time aboard a chartered flight.
The Captain of the team, Ahmed Musa vowed to bring home the trophy won in 2013.
He said the mission of the team is to go and win the title in Cameroon and not sightseeing.
Musa was part of the 2013 AFCON winning team under late Stephen Keshi and hoped that Super Eagles win the bi-annual competition for the fourth time.
“This squad has been together for a while, we are ready to compete for the AFCON. We are 100 percent ready. We are not going to Cameroon to see the beauty of the country, we are going to the AFCON to win.
The last time we won, the reception was huge and we want to feel such again,” he said.
The group stage will see Nigeria in Group D taking on Egypt on January 11; Sudan on January 15, and Guinea Bissau on January 19. All three matches will take place at the Adjia Stadium in Garoua.
