Video: Death Toll In Lagos Building Collapse Rises To Five

The death toll in the building collapse that occurred at the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos on Saturday has increased to five according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA.

The three-storey building which housed an eatery on the ground floor, was partially occupied with the upper floors vacant.

Emergency responders including officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management and men of the Nigeria Police Force were among the first responders who were joined by some residents to rescue some trapped victims.

Two adults were initially confirmed dead but as at Sunday morning the number of fatalities has risen to five according to an update provided by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
He said the recovered bodies have been transferred to the morgue while those rescued are been given medical attention.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operation continues at the site of the collapse.
