Video: Again, Unidentified Gunmen Attack Military Checkpoint In Imo, Destroy Operational Vehicles


Unknown gunmen on Sunday attacked the Ukworji checkpoint of the Nigerian Army along Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State, burning down the operational vehicles.

Gunmen have continued their assault against security operatives in the South-East region of the country.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen rained bullets on the military personnel, forcing them to flee.It is not clear yet if any of the army personnel was shot dead.

“Soldiers in Ukworji checkpoint, along Owerri Onitsha road escaped death as they ran away on sighting the unknown gunmen who invaded the checkpoint and set all the operational vans on fire,” a witness, Chioma Kanu, stated on Twitter.

This is coming at a time when Nigerians woke up to reports of an attack on the Imo State Police Headquarters and a correctional facility in the early hours of Monday.

It was gathered that reports on social media by witnesses said the attackers struck the prison and police HQ shortly after midnight, freeing over 1500 inmates.

The hoodlums further freed the suspects in almost all the cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the command.

Heavy gunfire also rang through the area which is close to the Imo State Government House.

It was gathered that senior government officials have been reportedly asked to shelter-in-place.
