Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has been named the Man-of-The-Match in Nigeria’s victory over Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations clash on Thursday, January 18.

Nigeria defeated the host 1-0 thanks to William Troost-Ekong’s penalty, giving them 4 points to enhance their chances of qualifying from Group A.

The Napoli striker won the penalty after he was brought down by the Ivorien defender in the penalty box. After the Video Assistance Referee (VAR) checked the foul, it was eventually awarded and Ekong dispatched it beautifully.

After the game, Osimhen stated that he is proud of the team’s win against Ivory Coast.

“First and foremost, it was a fair game and we needed to convert the penalty when the opportunity came our way and I am happy that Troost-Ekong converted the penalty.

“I am really proud of the team’s victory and we look forward to the next game.”
