A 300-level student at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), in Niger State, has died under circumstances suggesting a possible suicide linked to a house rent dispute.
The student, a Suleja native, served as a caretaker at an off-campus lodge where he collected rent from other residents. Reports indicate he faced pressure from the landlord to remit the collected rent, which he allegedly couldn’t account for – with some sources linking the missing funds to betting activities.
A handwritten note found at the scene has raised further concerns. Authorities, including security agencies, have been notified and are investigating the incident.
The university and local community are mourning the loss, as details continue to emerge.
