President Bola Tinubu in his nationwide broadcast speech to mark the country’s 63rd Independence Anniversary on Sunday revealed his plan for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The President days after appointing a replacement for the former Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele promised a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become.

Recall that President Tinubu on the 15th of September, 2023 appointed Olayemi Michael Cardoso as Emefiele’s replacement.

According to Tinubu, the special investigator appointed to probe the activities of the apex bank while Emefiele was still in office will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences.

He pledged that monetary policy would be of benefit to all Nigerians and not exclusive to the province of powerful and wealthy individuals.

The President said, “I pledged a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway. A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted.

“Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences. Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.”
