The Church And The Worship Of Money, By Uwem Sampson

122

If a man is dead to the allure of money, he’d be a happy man, a man driven or consumed by the love of money would have. Peace eluding him and it’s peace that guarantees a meaningful life.

In 2016, I saw a picture of a man’s fist chopped off, a feud in the family fueled by greed, People were fighting over a property, the owner died leaving the property, siblings slugged it out, when money comes into play, blood would cease to be thick.

Money casts a spell of division wherever it’s worshipped, unhealthy competitions and miseries are maladies that attend to those who are gripped by its glitterati and allure.
Money promises an easy life, a suction to a path where the soul and the conscience become inert.

What happens in the society, also takes place in the church. I think I’d be wary of a church where offerings are called for three or four times during a service, and the sermon’s emphasis is on money, but what many do not understand is that if people truly give their hearts to God, God’s love would also touch their pockets, and they would give out of their love for God, not out of compulsion or coercion.

When your sermons don’t touch men’s hearts, you may just be playing church, and money would take the pivotal role, and create schisms and chasms in the church.

I heard of a church where the pastor said he would stand close to where the offerings are put, and if you put an amount of low denomination, I think he said he would take it out, we don’t need to bleed the poor in order to sustain the church, the church should rather take care of the poor.

A man was at a church gathering where anointing oil(I think so) was sold at a certain amount, higher than the regular amount, the man wished to buy, but his money wasn’t enough, when things are played out in this manner, you chase people away, by the way, anointing oil does not save, it is God who saves.

The truth needs to be spoken, the forces of darkness seeks evil to pervade and swallow the church, fearless men need to speak against the run of avarice in the church. In 1558, April 29, Walter Mill was executed for talking about corruption in the church, he was in his eighties, the truth makes people in the dark uncomfortable. Are you uncomfortable with the truth? Seek the truth so you could have sustained peace.
