Qatar 2022: Super Eagles Qualify For World Cup Play Off After Cape Verde Scare

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are through to next round of 2022 World Cup qualifiers after playing out a lackluster 1-1 draw with Cape Verde’s Sharks at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos on Tuesday evening.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen netted the Eagles’ goal in the 1st minute, but five minutes later, Iaquine Tevares levelled scores for the visitors off a corner kick.

The Gernot Rohr tutored-side had several scoring chances in the first half, but could not convert of any their numerous chances.
Cape Ver were more purposeful in the second half while the Nigerians failed to reenact the level of performance exhibited in the first half.

Osimhen appeared the most hungry Eagles’ forward on the night, but his effort to hand Nigeria the lead failed to materialize as the Cape Verdean defence were spot on to clear the ball.

Nigeria is expected to go into the draws for the playoffs in March 2022 for a place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
