Goods and property worth millions of naira went up in flames as the popular Atakunmosa market in Ilesa, Osun state, southwest Nigeria, was razed by inferno.
The market situated around the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran caught fire at bout 7:00 pm, on Sunday, 9th August, 2015.
The traders whose shops and goods were destroyed by the fire were wailing as most of them were seen rolling on the floor as they counted their losses.
A food vendor in the market in Atakunmosa West Local Government Area of the state, Mrs. Comfort Olusayo said the reason for the fire outbreak was unknown.
She however said it might have been caused by electricity surge.
According to her, “the fire had almost razed down the entire clothing section of the market while corroborating other speaker’s suspicion that the fire might had been caused by electricity surge.”
She lamented that the fire service station in Ilesa was unable to control the situation.
