Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Risks Being Remembered By Posterity With Scorn, By Celestine Kezie

42

When we hear names such as Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, M.K.O Abiola, Dr Stella Adedavor, Dr Dora Akunyili, and Mr Peter Obi to mention but a few, they stir the hearts to admiration. On the other hand, very recently, at the mention of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, it stirs a bitter bile Nigerians due to his alleged moral compromise that marred the presidential election.

Ahead of the presidential election, the mood of the nation was as politically enthusiastic and hopeful as never before in recent decades. But all those were dashed under the command of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who allegedly capitulated and morally compromised when the citizens looked up to him to stand strong against the tide and midwife the delivery of a New Nigeria through uncompromised electoral process.

Three weeks after the presidential election, the INEC chairman is yet to explain to Nigerians the kind of technical glitch INEC had that rigged the presidential election. More so, INEC, is reluctant to obey a court order mandating it to grant access to aggrieved parties to inspect the election materials used for the presidential election. Prof. Mahmood Yakubu risks being remembered by posterity with scorn. Will he redeem himself? Let’s watch and see!
