232

The Presidency has reacted to the suspension of the two-day nationwide strike by the Organised Labour.

Reacting to the development in a post via his X handle on Wednesday night, presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, said the strike was unnecessary.

Onanuga added that the organised labour decided to suspend the strike following talks with key government officials earlier today.

He wrote: “The needless strike is over. NLC and TUC have called off their two-day strike, following talks with NSA Nuhu Ribadu and Labour Minister Simon Lalong.”

It was earlier reported that Organized Labour, comprising the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had suspended the nationwide strike.

The decision to suspend the industrial action was reached at a joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting between the leadership of the TUC and NLC after the intervention of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

The NEC decided to suspend the strike after discussion with the Bola Ahmed Tinubu government.

The NEC meeting which commenced at a few minutes past 7 pm lasted for close to one hour during which various affiliates and state chapters reviewed the outcome of the meeting held between the leaders of the organised labour and Ribadu.
