The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Akpan Godwin, in possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Onitsha. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad attached to Akwuzu on Friday at Nkpor, near Onitsha.
The arrest was made possible through credible intelligence, and during interrogation, Godwin confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition. He also revealed information about other individuals linked to the illicit trade. The police have launched an investigation to track down Godwin’s collaborators and dismantle the network supplying arms in the state.
The command’s spokesperson assured that the operatives have intensified their investigation and manhunt to apprehend all accomplices. This development highlights the ongoing efforts of the Anambra State Police Command to combat illicit arms trade and ensure public safety.
