The presidency has denied reports that some fighter jets mistakenly bombed some communities in Sokoto State while targeting terrorists.
The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, made the denial in a post via his X account late on Wednesday night.
According to Daily Trust, residents reported that the event took place around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
A resident of Silame, identified as Malam Yahya, mentioned that the two villages are situated in close proximity to Surame Forest, which is recognized as another hideout for the Lakurawa group and bandits.
Another source informed journalists that more than ten villagers were killed, with numerous others suffering from various degrees of injuries as a result of the airstrike.
The chairman of Silame LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, confirmed the occurrence of the attack, stating that they are currently evaluating the extent of the damage inflicted by the airstrike.
However, the presidential media aide described the reports of a mistaken bombing of communities in Sokoto State as fake and urged members of the public to disregard them.’
He wrote: “Kindly disregard any news about fighter jets mistakenly bombing communities in Sokoto.
“It’s all fake!”
