The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Eric Chelle will continue as head coach of the national team, despite falling short of the federation’s target of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Nigeria secured a third-place finish at the tournament, defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the third-place playoff after a goalless draw in regulation time.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau praised Chelle’s efforts, citing notable progress under his leadership. “The team is close to running on autopilot and will definitely achieve a lot of success under the present technical crew,” Gusau said.
“The NFF is proud of the team’s performance and will continue to do its best to encourage, support, and motivate the team as we go forward. Mr. Chelle has done exceedingly well within the one year he has been with us, showing enormous capacity, and we will continue to work with him.”
Nigeria’s next assignment is yet to be announced, but the team is expected to build on their AFCON performance under Chelle’s guidance.
