Nigerian Lawmaker Declares President Tinubu’s Second Term “Guaranteed”
A member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Wale Ahmed, representing Agege Federal Constituency, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027, declaring his second term “guaranteed.” Ahmed made this declaration during a stakeholders’ briefing at the Agege Local Government Secretariat.
Basis for the Declaration
Ahmed cited several reasons why he believes Tinubu deserves a second term, including¹ ²:
– Economic Progress: Growth in foreign reserves to over $40 billion, reduction in inflation rate, and increased Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
– Infrastructure Development: Ongoing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kano dual carriageway.
– Student Loan Scheme: Over N90 billion disbursed to indigent students.
Call to Opposition Leaders
Ahmed urged opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, to step aside and support Tinubu’s re-election bid. He emphasized that it would be fair for Tinubu to complete two terms, just like his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari.³ ⁴
Defense of Fuel Subvention Removal
The lawmaker also defended Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidies, describing it as a bold and courageous move that will yield long-term economic benefits for Nigeria.
According to him, the “financial re-engineering” of the country was already yielding results, including an increase in foreign reserves to over $40bn, rising foreign direct investment inflows, a reduction in inflation, and the disbursement of ₦90bn in student loans.
Ahmed further highlighted ongoing infrastructural projects such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, and the Abuja–Kano dual carriageway rehabilitation, which he described as evidence of the administration’s development drive.
“Tinubu’s foreign trips are yielding Nigeria respect abroad. The Sokoto–Badagry expressway had been on paper for 40 years until this administration took up the project. It will open up villages and benefit people across different states,” he said.
On his stewardship, the lawmaker listed various constituency projects, including youth and women empowerment programmes, borehole and streetlight installations, food palliatives, medical outreaches, classroom construction, skill acquisition schemes, and scholarships.
The event was attended by Agege Local Government Chairman,Tunde Azeez; his Orile-Agege counterpart, Abiodun Idowu; traditional rulers, market leaders, and community representatives, who commended Ahmed for delivering dividends of democracy.
