The family of the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agunwa Anaekwe, has announced the burial date for their beloved patriarch. According to a statement signed by IfeanyiChukwu Afuba, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub Committee, Anaekwe’s remains will be committed to the earth on Friday, October 17, 2025, at his Adazi-Ani country home in Anambra State.
Anaekwe, who passed away on July 5, 2025, at the age of 69 after a period of illness, was a notable figure in Nigerian politics. He was a former Acting President of the National Association of Nigerian Students and was elected into the House of Representatives in 1992, where he served as Speaker until the military intervention in 1993.
Throughout his career, Anaekwe was a member of several prominent political parties, including the Social Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and All Progressives Congress, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees.
The family has clarified that the correct spelling of their surname is “Anaekwe” and not any other variant in circulation. Further details on the funeral program will be communicated in due course.
