Kenyan long distance runner, Edwin Kibet Koech, has won the 2023 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The 2022 runner-up improved on his performance this time to clinch the first position with a time of 2:14:06.
His feat saw him beat more than 300 marathoners in the 42 km race to claim the grand prize of $50,000.
Koech beat Dekeba Shefa of Ethiopia, who came second after finishing with a time of 2:14:54 while Kenya’s Bernard Sang, clinched third position with a time of 2:17:14 .
In the women’s category, Guys Alemenesh Herpha of Ethiopia who came firstin 2018, repeated similar feat as she finished first in the category by edging Urisa Kebene Chala with a time of 2:40:42, while Chala settled for the second position in 2:40:44.
Kenyan Naomi Maiyo, who settled down for third position in 2022, came third with a time of 2:40:56.
In the Nigerian category, the race was won by Gyang Boyi Nyango with Adamu Shehu Muazu and Friday Yohanna finishing in second and third positions respectively.
Finishing in the 10th position, Deborah Pam was the first Nigeria female to finish the race. Elizabeth Nuhu and Dimatu Yahana ending the race in second and third positions.
