Former Super Eagles star, Ibrahim Babangida has died in a car accident.
It was gathered that the car accident which happened along the Kaduna-Zaria road, also involved the ex-Super Eagles brother, Tijani, his wife, son and maid.
Tijani is president of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN).
According to The Nation, a statement by the General Secretary of (PFAN), Emmanuel Babayaro, confirmed Ibrahim died in the crash.
“Comrades! Let us be in prayers for our president, Tijani Babangida, who just had a ghastly motor accident along the Kaduna-Zaria Eoad.
“Ibrahim Babangida, his younger brother, died on the spot from the accident while Mr President (Babangida) and his family were taken to the hospital.
“May the soul of Ibrahim Babangida Rest In Peace with God, amen,” Babayaro announced.
Meanwhile, a commander of the agro-ranger of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, identified as Mike Ode, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits.
We learnt that the incident happened at Shaapera community in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue state.
Speaking to Punch on the incident, the deceased’s uncle, Nicholas Ode, said that his brother was brutally killed in Shaapera village in Gwer West LGA on Monday, adding that the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Confirming the tragic incident, the NSCDC Command Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Corps, Mike Ejelikwu, said that the personnel’s death would not deter the command from performing its constitutional mandate of providing security for every law-abiding citizen in the state.
According to Ejelikwe, the deceased was killed during a gun duel with the bandits, adding that there was heavy casualty on the part of the bandits.
